Overview
If you’re experiencing timeouts, failed backups, or connectivity issues when using WP Umbrella, it might be due to our IP addresses being blocked or restricted by your server or firewall.
To avoid these issues and ensure WP Umbrella can connect to your site and complete backups smoothly, we recommend whitelisting our IP address ranges on your hosting provider and/or WordPress firewall.
Estimated Time to Complete: 5 minutes
Prerequisites: Access to your server’s firewall settings or WordPress firewall plugin settings
Steps to Follow
Step 1: Understand Why Whitelisting Is Important
Sometimes, firewalls or hosting providers may block or limit external connections to your website for security reasons. If WP Umbrella’s IP addresses are restricted, backup processes can fail or time out.
By whitelisting our IP ranges, you ensure uninterrupted communication between WP Umbrella and your website, which is essential for reliable backups.
Step 2: Whitelist WP Umbrella IP Address Ranges
We operate across multiple IP ranges, and backups may be routed through any of these. Please whitelist all of the following ranges to avoid disruption:
62.210.0.0/16
195.154.0.0/16
212.129.0.0/18
62.4.0.0/19
212.83.128.0/19
212.83.160.0/19
212.47.224.0/19
163.172.0.0/16
51.15.0.0/16
151.115.0.0/16
51.158.0.0/15
Note: We do not have a single static IP to provide because the IP address used for backups may vary depending on the server assigned to your task. For best results, whitelist the entire range to prevent issues.
Step 3: Check Firewall and Hosting Restrictions
Review your server’s firewall rules and ensure none of the above IP ranges are blocked.
If you use a WordPress security plugin with a built-in firewall (like Wordfence or Ninja Firewall), check their settings and add these IP ranges to the whitelist or allowed list.
Tip: Some hosts require you to contact their support team to manage firewall rules; if so, send them the IP list and ask to whitelist them.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
1. What happens if I don’t whitelist these IP addresses?
Backups may fail to complete, or you may see timeout or connection errors when trying to back up your website.
2. Why are there so many IP ranges?
We operate a distributed infrastructure, so it may originate from any of these ranges depending on where and how your backup is processed.
3. Can I whitelist a single IP address instead?
Unfortunately, no. Since our IP addresses change dynamically, whitelisting only one IP may not cover all scenarios.
4. How do I whitelist IPs in WordPress firewall plugins?
Each plugin (like Wordfence or Ninja Firewall) has a whitelist or allowlist feature—check their documentation or settings panel to add IPs.
5. I’ve whitelisted IPs, but backups are still failing—what now?
Contact WP Umbrella support, and we’ll help you troubleshoot further.
