How to Exclude Updates in WP Umbrella?

This guide will help you better understand the "Exclude Update" feature, as well as a use-case scenario and when you would like to exclude certain updates from being processed for specific plugins or themes on a website that you manage.

Prerequisites: WP Umbrella account, with at least 1 project.

Step 1: Locate Your Project & Open the Plugins or Theme Page

Once you open the WP Umbrella dashboard, simply locate the project/website for which you would like to exclude certain plugins or themes from updating and open the page. In this example, we'll focus on the Plugins page:

As shown in the screenshot above, when the Plugins page is opened, you will be able to see all your plugins, and right below the plugin name, you'll see an option named "Exclude Update".

Step 2: Exclude the Plugin

In this scenario, let's exclude the "All-in-One SEO" plugin from being updated on our website. Click on the "Exclude Update" button, and a pop-up message will appear to confirm your selection. Click the "Exclude Future Updates" button, and this plugin will be excluded from future updates.

Having a plugin excluded from updates means that it will no longer be present in the "Update available" tab, nor in the Bulk Management for the site in question.

That's it! You have successfully excluded a plugin from updates, and you can prevent updating this plugin by mistake if you need a certain version to be kept on your website.

FAQ

Can I Exclude a Plugin Update for All Sites at Once?

Excluding an update is based on a per-project/website basis, and excluding an update for all sites is not possible at this moment. If you need certain updates excluded from all your websites, you will need to exclude them following the guide above for each site individually.

Will the Excluded Plugin Only Skip This Version or All Other Updates?

Once you exclude a plugin or theme from updates, it will be excluded for any pending updates in the future. This means that you're not just skipping the current/next update, but any future updates as well.

I Excluded a Plugin, but I Want It Enabled for Updates Again. What Can I Do?

If you have excluded a plugin or theme from updates and you want it to be available for updates again, simply locate the plugin in question from the "All" tabs in your project and click on the "Reconsider Update" option as shown in the screenshot below:
